Imre Steindl statue, Parliament - Zsolnay Vilmos pirogránit szobor - Hungary Culture Photography

We are at the lounge in the southern wing of the Hungarian Parliament building. This lounge is connected to the National Assembly Hall. The statue of Imre Steindl, the architect of the Parliament building is seen on the left. It was sculpted by József Damkó in 1900. The figure of the architect was made of Zsolnay pirogranite. - In the early 1880s a heat- and frost-resistant, timeproof material called pirogranite was developed at the factory. Pirogranite was also used for other statues inside the building. - The Parliament located in Kossuth Lajos square in Budapest 5. district was built in neo-Gothic (Gothic Revival) style, according to the design by architect Imre Steindl between 1885-1904. It has a symmetrical structure with a central dome and two identical halls on the opposing sides of the building. One, in the southern wing (we are here), was formerly the Deputy Council Chamber, now the sessions of the Hungarian National Assembly are held here. The other hall in the northern wing was the House of Magnates (Főrendiház) and now it is open for guided tours and conferences, and called Congress Hall. ⛳ Az Országház déli szárnyán lévő társalgóban vagyunk, ami a képviselőházi – a régi alsóházi – ülésterembe vezet. A kap bal oldalán az Országház tervezőjét, Steindl Imrét megörökítő pirogránit szobor látható, mely Damkó József alkotása. - Steindl Imre nagyon jó kapcsolatot ápolt Zsolnay Vilmossal, aki megbízást kapott a belső szobrok elkészítésére. Zsolnay gyárában azidőtájt dolgozták ki a ún. pirogránit nevű anyagot. A pirogránit idő- és hőálló, előállítása is viszonylag olcsó, ezért Zsolnay Vilmos jó árat tudott adni a nagyszámú szobor előállításához. - Az Országház 1885-1904 között épült fel Steindl Imre tervei szerint. Külső megjelenésében az 1830-as évek Angliájában kibontakozó ‘Gothic Revival’ (neogótikus) irányzattal társítható . Az Országház egészére leginkább az ún. historizáló eklektika jellemző, melyben a neogótikus elemek dominálnak. - Steindl Imre, a 19. század egyik kiemelkedő építésze (1839–1902) már nem vehetett részt a teljes befejezés megünneplésében (1904).
