St.Elizabeth Church, architect: Imre Steindl - Rózsák tere - Hungary Culture Photography

We are in the Square of Roses in Elisabeth Town (Erzsébetváros), Budapest 7th district. The Church of St. Elizabeth of the House of Árpád, the largest church of the district was built according to the design by Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style. Steindl is also the architect of the Hungarian Parliament building. - The grandiose catholic church was completed in 1901 and dedicated to St. Elizabeth of Hungary (1207–1231), who was the daughter of King Andrew II and Gertrude of Merania. - The district Erzsébetváros was named after Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) in 1882. ⛳ Budapest VII. kerületében, az erzsébetvárosi Rózsák terén járunk. Az Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet-plébániatemplom Steindl Imre tervei alapján, neogótikus stílusban épült. - Az 1873-ban – Pest Buda, Óbuda egyesítésének évében – megalakult VII. kerület polgárai kezdetben a Szegényház téri (ma Rózsák tere), Czigler Győző tervei alapján felépült kis templomot használták. Később épült fel a képen látható nagyobb templom, melyet 1901 májusában szenteltek fel és Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet (1207–1231) oltalmába ajánlottak. 1905-ben a kis templomot a magyar görögkatolikus egyház kapta meg. - Spányi Antal plébánosnak nagy szerepe volt abban, hogy a Szent Erzsébet-plébániatemplom az 1990-es évek közepén műemléki státuszt kapott és ezzel megkezdődhettek a restaurálási munkák, melyek a környező park rendezésével együtt 2004-re fejeződtek be.
