Líceum Varázstorony Egri Bazilika - View from Magic Tower of Lyceum - Hungary Culture Photography

This photo was shot from the Magic Tower of the Lyceum. The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle, often briefly called Eger Cathedral, is the second largest church in Hungary. It was built – at the order of Archbishop János László Pyrker – in the style of Neoclassicism. (In Central and Eastern Europe, this style is usually referred to as ‘Classicism’.) The plans of the building were made by József Hild, one of the most famous Hungarian architects in the 19th century. A young, talented sculptor Marco Casagrande was invited from Venice to sculp the statues of the Cathedral. - The tympan is supported by Corinthian columns with Latin inscript: ‘VENITE ADOREMUS DOMINUM’ : ‘Come and Let us Adore Lord!’. The statues of Faith-Hope-Love standing above the vestibule, on the top of the facade, are also Casagrande’s works, just like the angel statues of Love of God and Truth of God next to the tympan. - Eger is the county seat of Heves, and the second largest city in Northern Hungary. Beyond the Cathedral it is best known for its castle, buildings, thermal baths and red wines. The town is located on the hills of the Bükk Mountains. ⛳ A fotó az Egri Líceum Varázstornyából készült. - Pyrker János László egri érsek (1772 – 1847) határozott szándéka volt, hogy méltó templom épüljön Eger számára. Az 1831 és 1837 között – Hild József tervei alapján klasszicista stílusban – épült Egri Főszékesegyház Magyarország második legnagyobb temploma lett. A szobrokat, domborműveket az érsek által Magyarországra hívott fiatal, tehetséges olasz szobrász, Marco Casagrande készítette. A templom ünnepélyes felszentelése 1837. május 6–7-én volt. Az oltárok kialakítása, a freskók festése még sok éven át tartott. A homlokzaton lévő felirat: ‘VENITE ADOREMUS DOMINUM’ : ‘Jöjjetek, imádjuk az Urat!’ A homlokzat tetején a ‘Hit-Remény-Szeretet’ hármas csoport látható. A timpanon mellett két oldalon áll az Isteni Igazság és Szeretet angyalpárosa. - Eger városa a Bükk-vidék délnyugati szélén fekszik. A város kiemelkedő turisztikai vonzereje a Bazilikán kívül a belváros, az Egri Vár és a Szépasszonyvölgy.
