Feneketlen-tó, Kosztolányi Dezső tér, park - Bottomless lake - Hungary Culture Photography

This photo was taken in the park at Lake Feneketlen (Bottomless Lake) in Újbuda, Budapest 11th district. - The lake of approx. 1 ha is, of course, not really bottomless, it’s 4.5 to 5 m deep. A brick factory that used clay from the ground operated here more than one century ago. The legend says that the factory workers hit a spring which caused the large pit to be filled with water. Some even claimed a few workers disappeared during the accident and their remains still rest on the bottom of the lake. The official, less thrilling version: after the brick factory had closed at the end of the 19th century ground water seeped into the pit and slowly made a lake. - Anyhow, it is a popular urban place now. I know it really is, because my whole family and I lived here for many years. We still often go here with my grandchildren. ⛳ A Feneketlen-tó melletti parkban vagyunk a Kosztolányi Dezső tér közelében Újbudán. - Régen a Feneketlen-tó helyén lakatlan, mocsaras terület volt. A közelben kanyargó Duna az idők során agyagot hordott a területre, így a 18. század végén téglagyár épült a mai Kosztolányi Dezső tér helyén. Az agyagot pedig a tó helyén lévő agyaggödörből termelték ki a munkások. A tó az 1870-es években keletkezett, amikor a téglagyár munkásai felszín alatti vízfolyásra bukkantak egy agyaggödör mélyítése közben. Az 1880-as évek végén bezárták a téglagyárat, a talajvíz pedig szép fokozatosan feltöltötte az agyaggödröt. - A tó melletti park 1958 és 1960 között épült Mőcsényi Mihály tervei szerint. A tó és környéke ma Újbuda egyik népszerű pihenőhelye. Családunk sok éven át itt lakott, én ma is újbudai lakos vagyok. Unokáimmal – a képen Zorki – még ma is gyakran lemegyünk ebbe a parkba.
