Szent Erzsébet templom, Steindl Imre, rózsaablak: Zsolnay Vilmos - Hungary Culture Photography

We can see the main facade of the Church of St. Elizabeth of the House of Árpád in the Square of Roses, Budapest 7th district. The church was built according to the drafts of Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style between 1895 és 1901, then dedicated to St. Elizabeth, princess of the Kingdom of Hungary. - Above the main entrance we can see a wonderful rose-window (wheel-window). It was placed in a ceramic frame made in the Zsolnay factory. The four evangelist symbols – winged man (Matthew), winged ox (Luke), eagle (John) and winged lion (Mark) – ornament the corners of the ceramic frame. - Hungarian sculptor Miklós Köllő’s statues – that of St. Ladislaus, Blessed Virgin and St. Stephen – are placed above the rose-window. - On the top of the facade is seen St. Elizabeth’s statue sculpted by György Kiss. ⛳ Az erzsébetvárosi Rózsák terén, az Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet-plébániatemplom főbejárati homlokzata előtt állunk. A monumentális épület Steindl Imre tervei szerint készült neogótikus stílusban. - Közvetlenül a főbejárat fölött rózsaablak látható Zsolnay Vilmos pécsi gyárában készített kerámiakeretbe foglalva. (A rózsaablak, ablakrózsa, vagy rozetta román és gótikus templomokon a főbejárat, ritkábban az oldalbejáratok fölött elhelyezett, nagyméretű, küllős szerkezetű ablak.) A keret sarkait az evangélisták szimbólumai – angyal (Máté), szárnyas bika (Lukács), sas (János) és szárnyas oroszlán (Márk) – díszítik. - A rózsaablak fölött a csúcsíves mezőben Köllő Miklós szobrai láthatók Szent László, Szűz Mária és Szent István alakjában. A kapuoromzat csúcsán Kiss György Szent Erzsébetet ábrázoló szobra van.
