View of Pest side from the eastern wing (facing the Danube) of the Buda Castle (Royal Palace). - The Parliament building, seen in the middle, was built in Gothic Revival (neo-Gothic) style, according to the design of famous architect Imre Steindl drawing inspiration from London’s Houses of Parliament. - ‘I didn’t want to create a new architectural style for the Parliament, because I couldn’t balance a building that has to stand for hundreds of years with ephemeral details. I have tried modestly and carefully, as is required by art, to bring a national and unique spirit to this magnificent medieval style. …’ – Imre Steindl said upon accepting his academic chair. - The grand dome reaches a height of 96 meters. The grandiose building was inaugurated in the year of the Millennium (1896) and completed in 1904. Unfortunately, Imre Steindl died two years earlier. ⛳ A fotó a Budavári Palota Dunára néző keleti szárnyán, a kupola előtti téren készült. - A Magyar Országház 1885-1904 épült fel Steindl Imre építész, műegyetemi tanár tervei szerint. A kupola magassága a tornyával együtt 96 méter. Az épület külső arculatában az 1830-as évek Angliájában kibontakozó neogótikus (Gothic Revival) irányzattal társítható. - ‘Én az Új Országházzal új stílust nem akartam teremteni, mert kőbe alkalmazható építészeti formáink nemzeties jellegének nyoma sincs sehol, s egy ilyen századokra szóló monumentális épületet ephemer [a szerk.megj.: tiszavirág életű] részletekkel nem kezelhettem, hanem igenis arra törekedtem, hogy a középkornak e remek stílusába szerény módon, óvatosan, mint azt a művészet mindenkor okvetlenül megkívánja, nemzeti és egyéni szellemet hozzak be. …’ – mondta akadémiai székfoglalójában Steindl Imre. - Az Országház egészére az ún. historizáló eklektika jellemző, melyben a neogótikus stílusjegyek dominálnak, de barokk és reneszánsz vonások is megtalálhatók. A tervező Steindl Imre, a 19. század kiemelkedő építésze élete fő művének teljes befejezését (1904) már nem érhette meg, mert két évvel korábban meghalt.
